The beginnings of the Silver Millenium and the ill-fated romance between Serenity and Endymion progressed as in canon, but Princess Serenity was assassinated approximately a year before the fall of the Moon Kingdom. Venus was chosen as Queen Serenity's new heir, and her charm and skill with negotiation successfully forged vital alliances for the Lunarians while the kingdom worked through its grief.
In the year after the assassination, Queen Beryl proved to be quite persuasive. She brought Endymion to her side, and together with his generals, he co-led the assault on the Moon Castle. Venus and her guardians fought honorably, but they fell. Only one Lunarian stood: Queen Serenity. She used the Silver Crystal's great power to send her fallen princess and comrades into the future, with a wish that they might find peace.
As in canon, Minako was found by her feline advisor Artemis and became Sailor V, fighting the first traces of their reincarnated enemies on her own. Parting words from a would-be lover on the other side of the war awakened her as Venus, and she set off in pursuit of her allies.
Minako and Artemis forged their first connection with Rei Hino, the maiden of Hikawa Shrine. Sailor Mars took to combat more naturally than Venus herself had, and soon the duo were a force to be reckoned with. They joined with Makoto, then Ami, and the four guardians were soon a unit once again. But something was missing...
Another shadow of the past emerged with Beryl's reappearance. A moment of distress in the first confrontation awakened the last revelation: that Minako was not a reincarnated Guardian, but the new princess. Memories of Serenity returned unbidden, spreading grief among the planet's four protectors.
But they would not be defeated. Venus bore the unenviable burden of command, the memory of their pigtailed princess forever burned into her mind. The Sailor Senshi would avenge their fallen friend and destroy all those who sought to take their new home, the Earth.
And Minako Aino stood in the shadow of a friend who should have been.
